Join Dr Chris Gibson, ecologist, naturalist, author and Wildlife Advocate for Beth Chatto Gardens in an exploration of the array of creatures that choose to take advantage of the garden spaces we provide. This day course, part in the classroom and part in the wild, will give you:
- An overview of biodiversity in the garden
- The principles of how the kingdoms of life are organised and named
- A more detailed examination of how we can tell different groups of garden insects apart
- Real-life experience of seeing all sorts of garden wildlife around the public and private areas of the Gardens
- Examination of the contents of a moth trap that (weather permitting) will have been run the night previously (all will be released safely!)
- Things to do, and not to do, in terms of planting and management to make your garden one of the better ones for wildlife: it is not all about long grass and nettles…
- Then of course you will have chance to visit the nursery to buy something to give your own garden wildlife a treat!
